July 11, 2007 Report PDF

Last Saturday morning was absolutely SLOW but things have really turned around since then.  We are getting great catches of Kings right out front.  If the weather cooperates tomorrow I plan to ride along with our tribal fishermen to get some first hand knowledge of what is going on out there.  It is safe to say, that recreational anglers are not happy to see all the nets off Manistee.  The question is, what can we do about it.? I have been attending meetings on the topic and sincerely believe that the best course of action is to try to work cooperatively to find a solution that works for both commercial and sport fishermen.  I haven't fished the Point recently but have heard that the nets down there make it challenging to say the least.  If you are looking to fish south and avoid the nets, the water between the mid 7's and the low 11's is currently net free. There are also no nets north of Manistee from 15.4 all the way to Arcadia.
